Vikrant Massey, the actor known for his standout performances in films such as 12th Fail, Haseen Dillruba, and The Sabarmati Report, has announced his retirement from acting. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 37-year-old actor revealed that 2025 would be his final year in the film industry.

“The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal,” Massey wrote. “I thank each and everyone of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home, as a husband, father, a son and also as an actor.”

Massey’s decision to retire has sent shockwaves through the film industry and left his fans in disbelief. Many of them took to social media to express their shock and disappointment at his decision to step away at the height of his career. With two more films still to be released, his announcement comes as a surprise to many who have followed his journey.

The actor, who most recently starred in The Sabarmati Report – a hard-hitting film based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident – is at the top of his game. His portrayal of Manoj Kumar Sharma in 12th Fail, a man who rose from poverty to become an Indian Police Officer, earned him critical acclaim. His performances in other films, such as Sector 36 and Haseen Dillruba, were also widely praised.

Massey first rose to fame with his role in the popular Hindi TV serial Balika Vadhu in 2009. His film career began with a brief appearance in Lootera (2013), a period drama directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. However, it was his role in A Death In The Gunj (2016), the directorial debut of Konkona Sen Sharma, that truly established him as a leading man in the industry.

Over the years, Vikrant Massey has built a reputation for his versatility, transitioning seamlessly from television to film, and more recently, into the world of web series. He was part of the hugely popular series Mirzapur and Made In Heaven, both of which showcased his range as an actor.

Despite the mixed reactions to his announcement, Massey remains focused on his future. His next project, Zero Se Restart, a prequel to the critically acclaimed 12th Fail, is set to hit theatres on December 13, 2024. This will mark one of his final appearances on screen before he officially steps away from acting.

Fans, however, remain uncertain about his decision. On his Instagram post, many expressed their disbelief, hoping that the actor might reconsider. One fan wrote, “I hope it’s not true,” while another commented, “Fill your cup then be back.” There were also concerns that Massey might follow in the footsteps of actor Imran Khan, who took a break from acting to focus on his family, only to step away from the industry entirely.

Others, however, offered their full support to the actor’s decision. “Aisa mat karo bhai” (Don’t do this, brother), one fan urged. While the emotional reactions continue to pour in, it’s clear that Massey’s choice stems from a place of personal fulfilment, balancing his career with family life.

Vikrant Massey’s career has been one of steady growth and constant reinvention. From his humble beginnings on TV to becoming a sought-after name in Bollywood, his journey has been nothing short of inspiring. His decision to retire is not about stepping away from success but about taking a step back to live a life of balance and personal contentment.

For fans, the news of his retirement is a bittersweet one. While many are sad to see him go, they understand his desire to prioritise family over fame. As he prepares for his last year in the industry, fans will undoubtedly cherish his remaining projects, knowing that they are witnessing the final chapter of a truly remarkable career.
